Each year, the North American Waterfowl Management Plan (NAWMP) Partnership's Canada component puts out Habitat Matters, an overview of NAWMP activities and accomplishments across the country.
This year's report highlights three of Pacific Birds partner projects: removal of invasive plants in the genus Spartina and associated management and outreach; conservation of the Bella Coola Estuary; and restoration along the Nanaimo River Estuary.
While only three projects are detailed, they encompass several Joint Venture strategies that lead to improving or protecting bird habitat–working across borders, bringing in multiple partners, and identifying and implementing strategic conservation actions. The Bella Coola Estuary project, for example, supports flyway populations of Trumpeter Swans as well as other migratory species.
