The North American Bird Conservation Initiative, known as NABCI, is a major partnership in and of itself. NABCI works across the continent to conserve birds, relying on a suite of partners in Canada, the U.S. and Mexico to identify local or regional needs and implement projects. The just published Field Guide to Developing Partnerships is a comprehensive look at why partnerships are critical and how to go about them.
True to form, there were 40 contributors: 23 organizations and 13 partnerships, including eight Joint Ventures. The Guide provides tips and tools for partner development and success, including consideration of the key people aspects of partnering–such as trust and understanding.
As the authors points out, it is a crucial time for bird conservation. it is also a crucial time for acting on universal human needs such as clean air and water and sustainable livelihoods. Seeking out new and non-traditional partnerships can help everyone meet their goals.
