New USFWS Regional Director Wants to Work with JVs to Enhance Pacific Region Conservation
Hugh Morrison, who grew up in Oregon and has served for more than 20 years with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS), has been selected as the new Regional Director for the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, Pacific Region. He has also worked in the non-profit sector, promoting conservation and inclusive outdoor recreation and has worked as a volunteer for the Coalition of Oregon Land Trusts (COLT). His knowledge of the Pacific Region, experience with the Service, and familiarity with non-profits are all huge benefits for the Pacific Birds Partnership, where collaborative partnerships drive conservation successes.
The Pacific Region of the Service-including Idaho, Washington, Oregon, Hawaiʻi and multiple Pacific Islands–overlaps with two Joint Ventures, Pacific Birds and the Intermountain West. Both Joint Ventures receive their core federal funding from the USFWS to catalyze and support partnerships and enact conservation activities that benefit birds. As Hugh says, “We have a great opportunity to continue and expand our work with Joint Ventures, from selecting priority habitats for migratory birds to implementing on-the-ground conservation actions and conducting public outreach.”
