Joel has worked in coastal wetlands and natural communities conservation for over 15 years, with a particular focus in Northern California. He has managed large land acquisitions, wetland restorations, invasive species control, public access, climate change adaptation, and conservation planning projects, many of which have had significant public outreach. As a Pacific Birds board member, he is interested in facilitating coastal wetlands planning and conservation, and strengthening the network of agencies, Tribes, and organizations working together to support bird conservation.
Joel has a Ph.D. in Environmental Biology from the University of Massachusetts Boston and lives in Berkeley, CA. He enjoys biking, hiking, backpacking, and botanizing his way through California's mountains, meadows, and forests with his wife.
