A Note from Nanette
As we reflect on the growth of Pacific Birds in 2022 and envision what 2023 and beyond may bring, I am optimistic about what is to come for bird conservation in the Pacific Birds Habitat Joint Venture region. As the latest State of the Birds Report reminds us, the work of collaborative partnerships like Pacific Birds, and all Migratory Bird Habitat Joint Ventures, matters now more than ever. The proactive, voluntary conservation of Joint Ventures that work collaboratively with communities, landowners, and agencies will help us tackle the challenges ahead.
After nearly ten years working with Pacific Birds, I am honored to step into the role of U.S. Co-Chair for the International Management Board. It is a privilege to help lead a Joint Venture working with so many partners across such a large geography to benefit birds reliant on multiple global flyways. I believe Joint Ventures play an important role in bringing partners together towards a common vision. The work of Pacific Birds is particularly close to my heart, focusing on familiar geography, habitat, and species from my home state of Hawaiʻi and the Pacific Northwest, areas where I have lived most of my life. I’m excited for this new role and look forward to work ahead!
