
Dr. Fern Duvall II was a long-time champion of the Pacific Birds Habitat Joint Venture and a treasured member of Hawaiʻi’s conservation community.
The Fern Duvall Conservation and Collaboration Award honors Fern’s incredible legacy by recognizing individuals working in the Pacific Birds region who embody the innovative, inclusive, humble, and collaborative spirit that Fern brought to conservation endeavors.
With this award, we seek to celebrate:
- Individuals who are early in their career and/or considered shining lights in conservation
- Small community-based organizations
Awardees will receive up to $1,000 worth of supplies that support their conservation work.
Submit a Nomination
Please complete the nomination form by 11:59 PM PT on July 1, 2026.
The nomination form will request contact information for the Nominee, for the Nominator, and for three references. You will also be asked to respond to the following questions:
- Provide a brief narrative outlining how the Nominee represents and exemplifies the core characteristics of the award (innovation, inclusivity, humility, and collaboration).
- Provide a brief narrative describing how the Nominee has impacted, inspired, or otherwise supported others in the conservation space or beyond.
Responses are limited to 500 words maximum per question.
Nominations will be reviewed by a committee of Pacific Birds staff and board members. The awardee will be announced in August 2026.
Eligibility
Individuals, partnerships, and organizations working to conserve habitat within the Pacific Birds geography that embody the core characteristics of this award are eligible to be nominated.
The Pacific Birds geography includes Hawaiʻi, the Pacific Islands, Alaska, and the western portions of British Columbia, Washington, Oregon, and northern California.
Nominations from anywhere in the Pacific Birds geography will be considered, but strong preference is given to nominees that have inspired or influenced wetland bird and habitat conservation in Hawaiʻi.
