Pacific Birds, in collaboration with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Coastal Program in Alaska, is hiring a Conservation Liaison to build and grow collaborative partnerships, identify priority habitat opportunities, and support project development and funding coordination efforts in Alaska.
The Liaison will contribute to the expanded development of coastal wetland conservation in Alaska, including the development of a strategic program roadmap and advancement of on‑the‑ground projects. Success will include a broadened partner network, identification of regional opportunities and priorities, and helping to set the foundation for long‑term, multi-benefit conservation initiatives that reflect Alaska’s global importance for migratory birds.

Work Environment
This is a part-time contract position, approximately 20-30% FTE. The Conservation Liaison will be a contractor of Ducks Unlimited, Inc., which serves as Pacific Birds’ primary fiscal agent, subject to negotiation and annual renewal per the U.S. Coordinator. There is secured funding for two years, with expected continuation with successful outcomes.
All Pacific Birds staff work remotely as a team. The required physical location of the Conservation Liaison is in Anchorage or greater Alaska. The work is predominantly computer-based activities but includes travel for in-person meetings and field visits.
Expected Activities
Partnership Development and Support:
- Maintain regular communication with partners, Pacific Birds, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Coastal Program.
- Coordinate partner engagement and facilitate meetings that advance shared conservation goals.
- Prioritize relationship-building with Alaska Native Tribes, Corporations, and Tribal organizations in alignment with Pacific Birds' commitment to Indigenous-led conservation and Tribal partnership.
- Document partnership activities and outcomes for ongoing tracking and learning.
Regional Coordination, Scoping, and Project Development:
- Identify priority conservation opportunities and project areas.
- Produce brief scoping summaries for potential partnerships, projects, and information needs.
- Coordinate collaborative project planning and alignment among partners.
- Identify potential funding sources aligned with priority project objectives.
- Assist partners in connecting to funding resources and programs.
- Support development of funding proposals and provide technical assistance to partners.
Program Development:
- Provide strategic recommendations on how Pacific Birds’ five service pillars can advance the pace and scale of conservation in Alaska.
Support Communications and Outreach:
- Represent Pacific Birds at key meetings, conferences, and Tribal/agency gatherings.
- Elevate the importance of coastal wetlands in Alaska for migratory birds, communicating that Alaska represents the headwaters of multiple global flyways.
- Contribute updates/stories to Pacific Birds communications (newsletter, Annual Conservation Report, social channels).
